SEGP Program

Background

The Sponsored Education Group Participants (SEGP) program is intended to allow expanded access to the Internet2 Network for state and regional education networks, through sponsorship by Internet2 university members. State and regional networks may include nonprofit and for-profit K-20 educational institutions, museums, libraries, art galleries, or hospitals that require routine collaboration on instructional, clinical and/or research projects, services and content with Internet2 members or with other sponsored participants. The program began in early 2001 and, as of June 2009, there are thirty-nine state K20 networks participating.

Is My Institution Connected to Internet2?

The easiest way to find out is to use the Internet2 Detective.

Run the Internet2 Detective*

Internet2 Detective offers computer users easy access to the status and capabilities of their current network connection by providing information about advanced network capabilities, including connectivity to an Internet2 backbone network, an estimate of available bandwidth and multicast capabilities. Internet2 Detective uses a simple interface to present information about a network connection that previously only advanced users or network engineers knew how to obtain. The Internet2 Detective can save the user time and frustration by verifying that the network fulfills necessary requirements to support specific applications.

* requires JavaVM software be installed on your machine. If you are behind a firewall the detective might not work correctly.
