Community Conversations on Climate Change
On May 9, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), ASTC, and the Arizona Science Center (ASC) organized a one-day workshop called “Community Conversations on Climate Change.” The workshop was part of ASTC’s Communicating Climate Change project (C3), which fosters innovative partnerships between research centers, the media, and science centers, and showcases science centers’ central role in educating the general public about global climate change.
The objective of the event was to give participants – educators, government employees, and interested citizens – the tools they need to converse comfortably and accurately about climate change. This meant teaching them about regional and local impacts of climate variability and change, giving them the chance to interact with local experts, and making them aware of opportunities to engage in the processes that shape their state’s climate policy.
One of the unique aspects of this conversation was the presence of local and regional experts willing to share their knowledge of the science, policy decisions, and educational choices related to climate change. Over the next few days, the presentations given by these experts during the workshop will be available on C3’s website: www.astc.org/iglo/c3.
