Overview

TEACHER GUIDE Grades 3-5 Back Story The woolly mammoth was long thought to be an extinct species, dying out during the ice age. Years ago, while digging in some frozen tundras, scientists made an amazing discovery... these mammoths were actually frozen alive! Arduous scientific efforts were taken to thaw the species and, although it has taken years, these furry, friendly creatures are alive and well today. What makes this story even more incredible, is that the mammoths have actually adapted to human civilization! They eat like us and dress like us. Can you believe it? These mammoths are living among us incognito? You may have even passed one on the street and didn’t know it! In the wake of this amazing discovery, scientists have been asked to find new homes for these mammoths and your help is needed. Adaptable as they have proven themselves to be, the mammoths seem to have developed a keen sense of "particularism" to their surroundings and climate. They have a high sense of pride in where they live and want to be around cool people. Would your home state be a good place for a mammoth? IMPORTANT!!! PROJECT REQUIREMENTS: 1. You must have at least standard IP Videoconferencing capabilities for two VC events. NO SKYPE. 2. You must be comfortable using a wiki and a blog with students. 3. You will be learning about your state and comparing it to another state. 4. You need to be flexible, fun and willing to see the project through the end!
