The Pocono Mountain School District sought 2 teachers from each secondary and elementary building to become members of a district-wide Internet2 implementation team. This team received training via MAGPI's professional development sessions, registers for Interent2 events to be utilized in their classrooms, and seeks collaborations with other classrooms outside of the district via Internet2. According to the National Staff Development Council (Revised, 2001), staff development that improves the learning of all students: organizes adults into learning communities whose goals are aligned with those of the school and district; requires skillful school and district leaders who guide continuous instructional improvement; and requires resources to support adult learning and collaboration. To help promote a professional learning community, this group meets with the Director of Instructional Technology for Secondary Education and the Director of Instructional Technology for Elementary Education to discuss and share (face to face and electronically) their experiences and ideas about Internet2’s impact at Pocono Mountain. During this period of work we evaluate and share resources, lesson plans, Internet2 event ideas, and anything else relevant to the group. We look to promote professional learning communities with meaningful discussion, communication and collaboration. Success for this project is evaluated based on the following criteria: 26 teachers participate in the project; All 26 teachers attend all of the above trainings; Each of the 26 teachers researches and integrates at least one Internet2 event into his or her classroom; Each of the 26 teachers designs and develops at least one Internet2 collaboration with another outside of the district; A community of learners expands into the subsequent school years.
