Overview

NEPTUNE's science and education programs will make use of infrastructure funded through the National Science Foundation's Ocean Observatories Initiative. The Regional Scale Nodes component of the OOI will be a cabled observatory built in the northeast Pacific Ocean. The new technologies associated with the OOI will extend power and bandwidth to the seafloor and will enable unprecedented interactive access to the oceans. This last frontier on Earth will become accessible to a global community of scientists, educators, decision makers, and learners of all ages.
