Overview

The EFA Web site includes five compelling, real-life stories in twenty, fifteen-minute streaming video episodes. Each video episode features a multi-ethnic cast and a friendly Wizard, who explains language and skill content throughout each story. The video segments are interspersed interactive vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and life skill lessons. The content is based on the California ESL standards and skill areas identified in the SCANS competencies.

Project goals

The English For All Web site is designed for older adolescents and adults who want to learn English. The goal of the product is to improve English language skills of learners so that they are able to function better in their school, work place, or community.

Advanced networking

Learning to speak English is a complex process. Learning via streaming video the size of a flickering postage stamp just doesn\'t cut it. The English For All video is digitized at a high frame rate so that learners can see mouth formation and important body language. Ideally, the video should be streamed at a minimum connection of 3 Mbps.

Partnerships

Thirty-eight states have requested master copies of EFA videos for distribution.
