NewWorlds Virtual Environment

Project Information

NewWorlds is Pennsylvania’s Educational Virtual Environment based upon an open-source platform called Open SIM; it is very similar to Second Life and uses the same viewer. You can read more about Open SIM at http://opensimulator.org.

The purpose of this project was to explore how the virtual environment can be used by students to engage in collaboration, communication, problem identification, problem-solving and conceptual model building. It continues today, and is designed to be student-centered, with Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) staff available to scaffold student’s efforts and provide support where needed.

You can reach our Educational Research & Development Division by phone during normal business hours (M-F, 8:00AM-4:00PM ET) at 484-237-5000, or by email at newworlds@cciu.org. We welcome your questions, comments, and ideas.
